Dave Holland is the current race director and it is run incredibly well.
Cable swims are especially good for OW swim neophytes, since it is somewhat of a cross between a pool swim and a "regular" OW swim. The cable is sort of like a lane line that you can follow if you have trouble sighting on distant buoys or swimming in a straight line.
But it is a good race for the more ambitious swimmers as well, since cable swims are the only OW swims for which USMS national records are kept.
After the race and race social, you can tour one of the local wine vineyards...as Mark Gill reputedly did last year to celebrate his 40th b-day in grand fashion...

I wish I didn't live so far away now or I'd be there in a heartbeat. I enjoyed looking through the results and history. I'm still hanging out on the top-10 list from many, many moons ago. :bliss:
Some year, I'll be out there. Not this year, though, unless I can dream up a client in Charlottesville that needs meetings on Friday and Monday in mid-July!
I will be there. I really like this swim, navigation is so easy, they start you in waves on 10, and Dave does a great jog organizing the swim. Plus, there are so many great places to go wine tasting afterwards!

Chris, I'll sweeten the pot. If you can get Mollie to do the swim, no matter what the Rodplingers, Stevensons or Muppets do in the water, I'll buy the beer for everyone.
