Are any of you going to be there? I did it last year in a small, ocean vessel ( wetsuit) , and this year will be swimming "naked".

I'll be swimming it. This is my first open water swim, I look forward to it but am a little nervous. I'm wearing a wetsuit. How did you do last year?

I was tense,.nervous, scared,..but when I jumped from the ferry,...all the tension disolved,....as we treaded water waiting for the "gun",..everyone was having fun,..like kids at recess. You will love it,..relax, swim YOUR race. I swam it in 40 minutes 55 seconds,....and am looking to bettering that this year,..but with no wet-suit,...I`ll be wearing a white long-sleeved rash guard,..look for me.

Waiting for the start of the race is the only time I don't look forward to. How were the currents last year? I kind of have and idea of what they will be like this year from a coach of mine.

I stayed on the safe side and swam along the lefthand side of the mass of swimmers, and probably overestimated the current as I was taken about 50 yards to the left of the opening to Aquatic Park. Entering Qquatic Park,.with about a 1/4 to go was exhilerating,..lots of folks on the seawall that encircles the Park,..cheering us on. As Gary says,...stop in the middle of the swim, and soak-up the view. It will be a picture you will always remember. Ron %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% ><>

I can't wait to see the view. It will be amazing. I'm pretty stoked for it. Did you have any problems with motion sickness? I had someone ask me about this but I had never taken it into consideration.

I get sea-sick in a boat,..real fast,....but in the water, no problem. I`ve been swimming thruout the winter in the Pacific,... every Saturday or Sunday I have swam out to the B bouy off the La Jolla Cove,..and then back ( duh!),..it`s a one mile journey. I`ve encountered some terribly rough seas,..huge swells,... lots of chop and have never suffered from motion sickness. If you are worried,..ginger snaps for breakfast.

Ginger snaps really help? No I'm not to worried. This is the first time I have swum open water before, so just nervousness/anxiety/excitement.
  • I get dried candied ginger from the Chinese food section in the grocery store. I eat a few pieces before open water races. It can't hurt. Try it.

Actually, ginger is an amazing help for motion sickness. You can also get it in capsules at any health food -type store. I suffer horribly from mal de mer and ginger is the only thing that has consistently worked for me. -LBJ
