going from a beach start out to the first buoy with 2-3 ft waves coming in, what is your method of getting through the the first 25-50 yds of shallow water + waves? thanks

    1. warm up 2. Check the bottom contour before the start so you don't hit any holes 3. Check the current if you can, line up accordingly so you swim as straight a line as you can to the buoy 4. At horn, run to water, run with knees high until you can't high step, then begin to dolphin, until waist deep or so, begin swimming 5. If there are waves, nothing you can do about them except stay out of the whitewater. If it's safe to do so, you can dive under (I've heard people recommend jumping over), grab sand, let it pass. Get thru the surf zone asap.

I just go at it. Sometimes I go over waves if it works out best, but if you are at risk of getting pounded, you can always duck underwater. Good luck! Where is this race?
