New Records for the Santa Barbara Channel

Thought I'd spill the beans on my friend Rendy Lynn Opdyke's swim this weekend. She was the first recorded woman to swim from Santa Cruz Island to the mainland and the fastest to make the longer 28+ mile crossing finishing in 10:51! Thats some serious swimming! I'm sure the rest of the story will be up at santabarbarachannelswim.org soon. There is an increasing interest in the cold & rough channel this year!

Hi Ron Lockman, Thanks for asking. August or September of 2008. I've got about 13 months left in training. Am consistently swimming 6 miles each day now, and the swim is 20.6 miles, not 18.6 as I was told!! just my luck!! Oh, well!!
