Thought I'd spill the beans on my friend Rendy Lynn Opdyke's swim this weekend. She was the first recorded woman to swim from Santa Cruz Island to the mainland and the fastest to make the longer 28+ mile crossing finishing in 10:51! Thats some serious swimming! I'm sure the rest of the story will be up at santabarbarachannelswim.org soon. There is an increasing interest in the cold & rough channel this year!

You folks who do these swims are my total ROLE MODELS!!!
In aiming for my five miler, I think of you and think if they can do what they're doing, I can manage five miles! I'll be thinking of you when I set off on my swim.
Congrats to Rendy who sounds awesome! Also sdswimmer has some pretty impressive credentials as does Donna... and btw, I notice that women seem to be doing great in long distance swimming competition. I heard that the first two finishers overall in the Manhattan swim were women!
Edited to add link.
Soooo, put your hands together for these terrific wimmenfolk!!! :applaud::applaud::applaud:
The #2 MIM finisher this year is the same Rendy, she was #1 last year, we have some very fast women out there!
