Thought I'd spill the beans on my friend Rendy Lynn Opdyke's swim this weekend. She was the first recorded woman to swim from Santa Cruz Island to the mainland and the fastest to make the longer 28+ mile crossing finishing in 10:51! Thats some serious swimming! I'm sure the rest of the story will be up at santabarbarachannelswim.org soon. There is an increasing interest in the cold & rough channel this year!
... and btw, I notice that women seem to be doing great in long distance swimming competition. I heard that the first two finishers overall in the Manhattan swim were women!wimmenfolk!!! :applaud::applaud::applaud:Tobie and Tammy are phenomenal marathon swimmers. And it didn’t hurt that in 1999 we had great conditions for the race.
