I wanted to start training for a 3 mile swim across the Hudson for MS in September. i have never done anything like this before. I thought this would be a great goal to work towards and it is for a good cause.
Could you share any advice on training? I was thinking of finding a shorter open water swim. Does anyone know of any on Long Island?
I did join a swim group and so far that is great! It has helped strengthen my skills.
Thank you!!!!
There's also the 3-mile Hudson swim for the Leukemia/Lymphoma society which is the second weekend in September. I'm doing that one for the first time and I've heard it's an amazing race.
For those of you doing these kind of open water races for the first time, I would say the most important thing is the choose a race that has great support. I've done some open water where the kayakers were absent, where the course was virtually unmarked, etc. If you're not a confident open water swimmer, that could be really difficult. I've done some longer distances that felt easier because I was confident that there was support if something happened, and shorter distances where I felt completely on my own and it was worrisome.
The Hudson race sounds like a great first time race. Enjoy!
