Sachuest Beach Open Water Swims

I'm starting this thread as a way for people to check if there is going to be an open water swim at second beach in Middletown RI, any given day. We do these swims from June 15 to November 15, usually on Tues and Thurs. We also sometimes do an early morning swim on the weekend, from 1st beach to 2nd beach, around Easton's Point, about 1.9 miles. Starting in June I'll be posting the plans and the reports. I usually send out emails, but this won't require an email list, and anyone who is interested will be able to check. Who knows, maybe others who swim at 2nd beach and have access will chime in and organize their own swim dates using the forum! Aloha Mike.

  • We had a few swims this past week, some fog, some waves, decent participation. Weekday swims are not as well represented as they might be due to our bizarre weather this summer. 530 Wednesday was washed out on account of fog, and Wednesday 430 was marginal. The small shrimp seem to be quite reduced, and now the small jellies are blooming in spots. But hey, that's what the ocean is all about! It keeps changing. This morning we had 11 swimmers for the around the point swim; four newbies: Liz, John. Paul from NY and Diane. We buddied them up and had a good time. Plenty of wind out of the south made for more challenging conditions than usual. water was about as warm as it gets; just about everyone had wetsuits today nonetheless. Good luck to the Save the Bay swimmers this coming weekend. Hope you meet your goals. As usual email the list if you want to swim either at 430 or 530 any day this week. If anyone else is not doing Save the Bay and wants to join me for a free swim of the same distance around the point Sunday morning, let me know. Cheers, Mike G.
