My cousins are part of a team of 6 people who are currently swimming around Ireland. The water temps. vary from 51 deg. to 56 deg. and none of them are wearing wetsuits. They are hoping to swim 25 miles a day but weather, tides and winds affect their ability to make their target each day. Check out roundirelandswim.ie for their daily blogs!

I enjoyed reading their blog - good luck to them! Now I really feel like a wimp for complaining about 68 degree water...
Loved this quote:
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do, than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Mark Twain.

that's the home page, there's a link on the homepage for the daily updates
they have made it more than 1/4 of the way around Ireland, past the Belfast shipping lanes and busy Dublin Harbor. They have had days where they all swam more than 4 miles each and days where they aren't able to get very far (it all depends on the tides, currents and wind/weather). I think the jellyfish have been pretty bad also.
My sister & her husband once went on a golfing tour of Ireland & Scotland. My sister said that it was the most boring thing she had ever done. She doesn't golf.
