I saw the movie a few months ago. Very moving and reccommended, not only to swimmers. Swimming the Channel is used by the hero to solve his personal problems resulting in his dismissal from a highly respected blue collar position and a personal tragedy (his small son had drowned many years ago while on a family holiday at the beach). For swimmers this movie has an added dimension.

I saw the preview for this on a dvd. I an under the impression from a friend that this movie isn't going ot be widely released inthe states. That it might run for a week then come out on dvd because of lack of interest in previews. and early showings. I wondered if they actually filmed the swimmign scens inthe chanel. does anyone know? I'm real interested in swimming the channel and have talked about doing a relay with Matt S. Another friend of mine who is British and lives in DC says that I'm crazy becasue the water is now so dirty. We'll see what happens.

This only showed at a few placed in Australia too, which was a shame. I thought it was great and had a reasonable story line. Having swum the channel in 2004 I was impressed how true to the sport of channel swimming it stayed. Well worth a trip to the cinema (or DVD shop as it probably is not showing anywhere now) I'm real interested in swimming the channel and have talked about doing a relay with Matt S. Another friend of mine who is British and lives in DC says that I'm crazy becasue the water is now so dirty. We'll see what happens.Hope it comes though. I have swum in plenty worse than the channel. I think though it often comes down to the weather and tides on the day. I didn't even see any seaweed let alone rubbish in the separation zone.

Small world - I just watched it last week ( we got it on Netflix)! Very sweet and touching movie with beautiful swim shots at the Dover cliffs.
