Hit 500k yds yesterday

On advice of a friend I started tracking my year to date yardage this year as a motivator to get the pool as often as possible, and to try to hit 1 million yards for the year. I've never done this in the 35 or so years I've been swimming but so far its been working pretty good; I'm 2 weeks ahead of schedule. anyone else keep track of their yardage through out the year?

I have a very similar goal as you: a million meters. (What can I say, I succumbed to the alliteration.) I'm 11 miles ahead of pace so far, but I know from experience that you can lose ground in a hurry: illness, injury, work, vacation, taper, etc. One nice thing -- or a bad thing, depending on your perspective -- of GTD is that you can change your goal in mid-stream. If something unexpected sidelines you for a time and your original goal is no longer achievable, you can re-assess and try a new goal that is doable. The integration with the FLOG is great. And you can get monthly/weekly stats, and all that. The top people are pretty impressive: www.usms.org/.../gtdparticipants.php
