  • I think Beard just got the general 'also swimming in this heat' because she's not really a contender in the 100 BR, and they already had the Hardy-Soni storyline planned for the event as well as a discussion of Breeja Larson's good form to cover. They'll probably say more in the 200 BR where she's got a better shot. I agree with this and there will be a big storyline about Amanda in the 200 ***. Now anybody out there correct me if I am wrong, but Amanda Beard, if she makes the team in the 200 ***, will be the first USA Women to make 5 consecutive Olympic Teams. Dara has made more but not consecutively. She might be the first Women to do this but I am not up on other countries Olympians and there is probably someone that has made more. For that reason and that reason alone, that should create a good story line. This will only be possible if she makes the final of the 200 ***. In 2008, Amanda Beard upset Catlin Leverenz for that second spot in the 200 *** where no gave her a chance so she has a shot. The way Leverenz swam the IM you would think not but then Leverenz did swim a good 100 *** so you never know. Beard has her work cut out for her. Her 2:24.30 is seated 2nd but Beard was seeded in the 100 br with a 1:07.49 then went 1:08.21 in prelims, 1:07.92 in Semi's. If she's proportionally off her 2:24.30, she could be very vulnerable to someone who happens to be on. There are some very impressive names in the top 40. Guess we'll know more after the womens 1 *** finals, & the 2 br prelims & semis. • Kirk, how about semi-finals? I've seen videos of semis on NBC's site, but Comcast only seems to have finals.
  • I've seen videos of semis on NBC's site, but Comcast only seems to have finals. Can you post a link? Apparently my blonde-ness is showing today, because I can't seem to find archived races on their site.
  • For 2016, it seems like it would be pretty easy to trim the field with only some small adjustments to the cuts. For example, there are 179 entries in the men's 50 free. If the cut had been 23.29 rather than 23.49, the number of qualifiers would have been 94. I don't think anyone would call an adjustment of 0.2 seconds unfair. swimswam.com/.../ So does this mean that the Trials cuts should be faster or slower? :dunno:

  • Commentary its abuzz that many swimmers are only focused on getting to the next final, not necessarily going all out on every swim. This might account for some of the slower times. Do you guys think that a tougher cut with the time trials make for better competition?

Donahue wasn't a huge surprise if you noticed her in 2011 when she turned in a 58.05 #14 world ranking (tied with Natalie) last August and then had a very nice Pan Am Games. I think a lot of folks had her clustered with Coughlin and Christine Magnuson as racing for the second spot in the event. And of the contenders, she actually seemed to still be improving unlike some of the other expected finalists. Wonder if Becca Mann is going to manage to take down the 13-14 400 free record that Ledecky just missed. It seems like she's got a late enough birthday that she could take a run at Sippy's time ay the US Open in August.

Did anyone notice that the announcers never mentioned Amanda Beard last night? Is she blacklisted for being too sexy?
