kids' swimming and my swimming

All parents go through something like this. I think I just need to write it down to stay on track and not get overwhelmed. I get up at 4:30am to go to work early. My wife gets the kids up and to school. I get out of work around 3pm (unless I get stuck in some issue). I go right to the pool from about 3:30pm to 4:30pm. My wife takes the little one to her practice at 6pm. I take the older one at 6:30pm for dryland and then swimming from 7-8pm. This really is crazy.
  • Have less kids ? Hire a pool/soccer/dance/football NANNY? Leave them at have to think about sports? Welcome to the duties of a good parent!!!
  • I've lost track somewhere along the way of my sanity: Monday - Get up at 6, work from 7:30-4, get home at 4:30, drop daughter off at swim practice at 6pm, go to different pool at 8pm, swim till 9:15pm Tuesday - Repeat work sched, take daughter to practice at 6:15pm, coach developmental group from 6:15-7:45 Wednesday - Work, take daughter to 5:15 soccer practice, assistant coach soccer until 6:45, go to pool for 8-9 developmental coaching Thrusday - repeat Tuesday's sched. Friday - work, leave from work 30 min early and go swim with our 13/14 program 4-5:30pm Sat - Masters practice from 9-10am, for the Fall (at least until beginning of Nov) - take daughter to soccer game in the afternoon Sun - swim with 13/14s from 10-11:30, coach developmental group from 11:30-12:30, coach clinic 1-2pm Ugh, that's not good to see written down. Each day didn't seem so bad but now?

This was my summer schedule for approx 10 weeks: Weekdays: 5.40 am get up and go to pool for 6am-7.15am swim Home, make breakfast for myself and kids, eat breakfast. Get daughter to pool for 9.30am-10.15am swim Then deal with the rest of the day which often involved going to a friend's pool, or taking the kids to the outdoor pools. Except the 3 weeks where I had her do some diving lessons, so we went to a different pool at 10.45 for 30mins. Saturdays up at 5.40 for 7am warm-up at swim meets held at various local pools - both my daughter and myself swam. Sundays I tried to stay dry. Now its easy - I swim when smaller child is at pre-school and my older daughter swims 6.30-7pm, about 3 nights per week, depending on when they have the pool.
  • Every weekday starts the same Up at 5am -- coffee until 5:20 5:30 - 6:30 a swim at Y (weds I try to lift weights) 6:30 wife wakes up kids 6:45 I make breakfast for sleepy kids (and eat mine) 6:45-7:20 shave, clean kitchen, shower, get kids backpacks and lunch boxes on kids, dress, drag garbage or laundry where it is supposed to go 7:21 run kids to bus stop Then its off to work! (i am almost always a little late) The evenings vary between Karate drop/off pick up -- SHSAT review, rabbit care, dinner, clean up, laundry make a pile of lunches, someone has to go to the supermarket, bar mitzvah study and which child has a huge existential homework crisis. I have a plan to do a set of Core (planks and med ball and stuff) exercises with my kids in the evenings but it often doesn't happen It always feels like I am careening downhill in a go kart without steering but it felt much worse before I added the morning swim. Anything else that goes on after that doesn't matter, I had my water time!
