SUIT EQUALITY

Right now current suit rules dictate, that Men wear must wear jammers or briefs in meets & Women can race in zipperless kneeskins Guys, what if men were allowed to race in zipperless kneeskins? I for one think more coverage would allow me to swim faster. What if masters men were given the choice? What would you choose? Ande

  • If such a rule is passed I suppose men would just buy women's suits? I guess then the men could complain about suit straps digging into their shoulders too... :) I think Pacific's rule proposal -- at least the way I read it -- allows for zippered textile bodysuits with equal coverage, since the proposal only mentions material and coverage and specifically says that FINA specifications only apply to SCM and LCM. Not sure where anyone would get zippered textile kneeskins since I don't think they are being manufactured, so (after using up the stock of any older suits) most men and women would probably buy what are legal for women in non-masters swimming. But I also have heard that there are countries out there who want FINA to adopt equal coverage for men and women for non-masters swimming. I don't think USMS should consider it unless that happens; one set of suit rules for all organizations and all courses.
