Anyone sprained wrist/hand during a pull?

Yesterday I sprained the part between my wrist and hand on the thumb side during either freestyle pull or backstroke pull. I was not aware when it happened, but after one lap, I suddenly felt the pain and the hand couldn't make a pull any more (very painful and weak). It hurts a lot and hasn't got any better. The hand is incapable of doing anything in certain directions, even washing hands. I don't know how this could happen :( A pull couldn't have broken a bone, could it? Has this happened to anyone else?

Yep, I've done that. It sounds like you sprained a tendon that attaches the thumb to the wrist. Basically hurts so bad you think you broke your wrist! Rest and ice with some basic pain reliever/anti-inflammatory should help. If you still want to swim, maybe you could try a splint to hold your thumb in place and reduce pressure on the wrist. Get ready for a lot of kick sets!!! Get well soon!
