Many moons ago - maybe 7 or 8 years, my teammates and myself would discuss which is harder - the 200 fly or 400IM.
I always thought the 400IM would be worse as it involves backstroke which drains me and then I would have to stay with the plot on 100 ***, and I'm not a breaststroker by any stretch of the imagination.
200 fly on the other hand, well its all fly and 200 less than the 400IM and once you've got your rhythm you're set ..... so what do you all think?

2 fly is my best event and 4 im is my second best. but i am only a good 4 im'er because the 100 fly at the beginning doesn't make me tired at all and i'm decent at the other strokes.
i'd say the 400 im is tougher because it takes me a lot longer to recover afterwards. also, because of the distance, i think it requires more training to be able to do effectively.
Now see that was kind of my thoughts.
In my pre-baby days, my event order went something like :100fly, 400 free, 200 fly, 200 free, 800 free. And somewhere in there would be 200IM, but I never had much opportunity to swim it.
I would aviod back like the plague and do the occasional 100 *** for "fun". I always figured I'd have the endurance to finish the 400IM, especially as I was a fly swimmer, but the 100 back scared the heck out of me (still does).
This is an interesting choice of poisons.200 LCM fly is the only event where I have been afraid I couldn't finish legally.400 IM on the other hand makes me want to skip the backstroke. While not in danger of a DQ my backstroke does make spectators think I need CPR.At our Association Meet a couple of years ago I entered the 400 IM thinking no one else in my age group would enter and it would be an easy way to score points for the team.3 fast guys had just aged up and all entered the 400 IM.I went out too fast and was dying on the back.On the back to BR turn I usually take 4 strokes from flags to wall.Knowing I was tightening up I took 5,no wall, looked over my shoulder to see the wall in the distance and took 3 more strokes to reach it.Fortunately then I could swim BR which, even exhausted I love.200 BR,done right should be exhausting and is a very hard event IMHO,but you do know if you keep going you will finish.200 LCM fly, maybe not.200 SCY fly is easier as you only have to make it 25 yd at a time before you have a wall to hold on to.

:lmao: Allen, we're two peas in a pod- uh- make that two frogs on a lily pad on that one. :afraid:
In the past I have swum both regularly until my knees forced me to give up *** for a while. I will add it back in another year or two since the knee is recovering nicely. I think both are equally hard especially if you split the 400 IM correctly.
I actually prefer the 200 Fly LCM over 400 IM LCM and/or SCY. At Indy I learned that I can kill myself on the first lap of the 200 fly and then ask myself WHY for the next 3 laps or I can start out with an easy pace that I can maintain and only the last lap is tough. I now swim the paced 200 fly and I can actually do a 500 fly LCM with no problem. When you do enough 500 fly's in practice the 200 fly is easier.
YES you can call me CRAZY and loving it!

hey our shipment of noodles finally came in!!

PARTY TIME!!!
Hah! Since Noodlers are worms (they manage to worm their way into taking over the swim lanes- and the entire pool...), this could be the perfect Smilie for Noodlers. Bringing up that subject is like opening up a can of worms, in more ways than one.! :bitching:

But they're kinda brown....surely we deserve bright neon ones too?
Or have the noodlers kept them all for themselves?
I want to try that one day...
Me too! I think I'll pick a day (in the far future) and just do it. I'm thinking some time in November. Anyone else in for the challenge?
