Masters Team in College Station PA?

I looked on the places to swim on the USMS site and didn't see many listings for PA. Is there a masters team somewhere near Penn St.? Thanks! --mj
  • This is where Blue Muppet needs to stop lurking and provide some insight. blue muppet at your service :) anyways, i'm glad the OP mentioned Penn State, as there's not actually a college station, PA  sorry, couldn't resist the smiley ;) honestly, it does gets confusing since so many college towns have "college" in their name (state college, PA; college park, MD; college station, TX) but, getting back on topic, there is a masters team that swims out of PSU. in the summer, they swim M / W / F - 8:00-9:15AM (long course) and T / Th - 5:30-6:45PM (outside short course). this runs till august 11th this year... i'm not sure what their fall schedule will be, as their academic year schedule has changed since i last lived in state college... if you need more info, please don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.
  • swimmj, Are you going to State College or some place in the area? There are other places to swim in State College other than PSU. The State College YMCA has an 8 lane pool, but I do not know the schedule for lap swimming and there is a fitness club with a 6 lane pool. I am from Hollidaysburg, PA which is 40 miles south of State College, near Altoona. Thanks so much, Loren. I am looking for a team for a charming grad student I met while she was visiting with a cousin of mine in Portland, OR. They were attending a conference and we met for lunch and once I revealed that I'm coaching swimming, she started quizzing me for swimming tips. She learned to swim as an adult and wants to be more comfortable in the water. I think a masters team would be a great fit for her, as she could use the tips a coach can provide and the social environment as well. Blue muppet, thanks so much! That is exactly what I hoped to find.
  • swimmj www.athletics.psu.edu/.../index.asp. This is the web site for McCoy Nat. Look under the courses for the masters team information. Thanks so much, Loren. This is perfect.

Well--after you burn up the calories at the pool--you might want to stop at the Creamery on campus. PSU has a certificate program in ice cream production and there is an ice cream store on campus. Many people ship it home or just eat it there. Remember--as a state university--they have a farm co-op program and there is an animal portion to that. http://creamery.psu.edu/

My husband would be in serious trouble if we lived and swam there all the time. His favorite vice is ice cream.....

The Creamery is only 1/2 block from the swimming pool.
