Wow, what an upset for Aaron! That was quite a surprise!!
In a way, not really because Thoman, Plummer, Grevers, and Peirsol have been pretty close for a while. But, it was great to finally see someone other than Peirsol or Grevers get the top spot. Too bad Thoman didn't get second. He almost had it too.
I doubt he will be much faster at Pan Pacs. Has anyone besides Phelps been under 4:10 in a jammer? I doubt it in fact I don't think anyone has been close. He beat Clary by 5 seconds. That was a great swim.
It was smart for Hoff to drop the 200IM. I think her approach (swimming 5+ events ) has cost her Olympic gold. Her program should be: 400 Free, 200Free, 400 IM and try and get a spot on the 400 Free Relay.
Lochte went a 4:07 in Rome 2009, 4:06 in Trials 2008. He wasn't at his best in Beijing. I don't remember what suit he wore at Trials but he did wear the LZR last summer. I know that sometimes he wore the LZR jammers or legs. Last night's 400 IM was a great swim for him since he is coming off of the knee surgery and the groin. Keep Lochte away from the club, trees, and skate boards til London, please! But, all in all, he could go a little fasters at Pan Pacs and so can Clary.
Hoff problems in Beijing were probably mental than her schedule. You live and you learn. It is a good thing to cut her schedule a little.
Hasn't Lochte gotten in trouble climbing trees as well?
Despite the bad turns, Pinon's definitely one to watch. Very impressive time for a 15 year old.
He could be holding back for Pan Pacs since he has been faster before. Maybe holding back due to the injury. Lochte should be allowed to skate or dance a few months before a Major meet.

It's got to feel weird being Michael Phelps rolling into a swim meet like this. The guy is a 25 year old multi-millionaire, up against a field of primarily college guys 3-4 years younger then him hoping to make a name for themselves. The fact that he is still putting in the time and effort to train for another Olympic run is impressive in and of itself.
In a way, masters is even more distinct in this regard. In a heat of eight swimmers you could have a range of backgrounds from military to executives to teachers to skilled laborers to Wookies and everything in between. We've got 7 figure salaries to unemployed but stripped down to a bathing suit we're all pretty much equals.
What's his name? I'm watching until I need to leave for the pool to work with my swim coach. :D Soni put in a good race!
Nick Tremols. I think he's doing the 200 IM on Friday. Today he did a 56 in the 100 fly! :applaud:
