  • It's got to feel weird being Michael Phelps rolling into a swim meet like this. The guy is a 25 year old multi-millionaire, up against a field of primarily college guys 3-4 years younger then him hoping to make a name for themselves. The fact that he is still putting in the time and effort to train for another Olympic run is impressive in and of itself. ah, that is his job to roll out to swim meets and compete.
  • You certainly weren't. I could't beleive it when he kept doing it over and over... The guy is 15, will see the tape and know to fix that error. Gosh, still impressive time. The 400 free LCM is such a fun event while the 500 isn't so fun and in no way related in my opinion.
  • In the 400 B final, the Pinion guy was turning way too soon. I noticed that, too. He almost missed his last turn.

Lochte went a 4:07 in Rome 2009, 4:06 in Trials 2008. He wasn't at his best in Beijing. I don't remember what suit he wore at Trials but he did wear the LZR last summer. I know that sometimes he wore the LZR jammers or legs. Last night's 400 IM was a great swim for him since he is coming off of the knee surgery and the groin. Keep Lochte away from the club, trees, and skate boards til London, please! But, all in all, he could go a little fasters at Pan Pacs and so can Clary. Hoff problems in Beijing were probably mental than her schedule. You live and you learn. It is a good thing to cut her schedule a little. Just for perspective Lochte wore LZR legs in 2008 and 2009. (You can tell that as a kid Lochte was the one who was jumping off the roof into the pool for the excitement of it.). I do agree that Hoff's problem was mental. I think she could not mentally handle her schedule. I also heard second hand that this is why she left her former coach.

So, Phelps made finals in the 200 free by just 0.6 seconds. Do y'all think he really knows within a few tenths how fast he is swimming, or did he get a little lucky? I always had to go all out in prelims to make finals (or consoles, or neither), so I don't know how those guys can game the system like that, no matter how much better they are than the rest of the field.....

And besides, a lot of those swimming are teenagers, not in their 20s.

  • Well. Lochte was certainly impressive. And it's good to see Katie Hoff back on form. He could be holding back for Pan Pacs since he has been faster before. Maybe holding back due to the injury. Lochte should be allowed to skate or dance a few months before a Major meet.
