As a counterpoint to your argument concerning the elites, I will say that I have adult friends who participate in other sports who pay enormous amounts of money to go to "fantasy" camps with some of their sports greats. I will happily sacrifice a few spots on the rankings to be able to swim beside (I actually swam a 1000 with two Team Elite members in Feb) or at a meet with the best ever in our sport.
I gave up donuts 5 years ago when I was super fat so I want my tech suit as a consolation prize for my years of deprivation.
