USA Swimming has done a terrific job dedicating resources and personnel to help facilities best program themselves to become self sustaining. USMS too through our Coach and Club Development program is now providing education and training to aquatics directors and facilities. Together, we are striving to offer programming solutions to help keep more pools open.
This is one of the themes of SwimFest; www.usms.org/swimfest. If you want to learn more, we encourage you to attend.
If you hear of a facility targeted to be closed, please let us know so we can help.

perhaps, many politicians and many in the public would support pools if they saw them as more than only recreation and saw their potential to improve health, enhance vitality, enhance community and reduce the numbers strolling around shopping malls (sorry merchants)
while we often look like we are having fun, pools are not frivolous
in particular, seeing teaming kids swimming is a lot better than watching them play video games and watching tv for hours
