I would like to propose the First Annual Forum 50.
The idea originated here: Eat or not before swimming in Early Morning? - Page 4 - U.S. Masters Swimming Discussion Forums
Here are the rules:
Swim an all out 50 for time
Post your time here
That's it. Swim an off 50, swim your best, swim a 50 IM, who cares. It is like a postal swim, except not official for anything, and takes a lot less time.
It's only a 50!
The next time I have access to starting blocks is Friday, so I will do my swim Friday or Monday.
If you got'em, use 'em. (Blocks)
Good luck.
Hey FindingMyInnerFish,
Just get up and do a fast 50, no need to post a time if you don't want to. This is a good excuse to do a fast 50 if the last one you did was 3 years ago.
Oh I don't mind posting a time, although reading my time might not be for the faint of heart. :)
I (re)joined a masters swimming group with all faster swimmers (previous coach had work commitment). Plus, I do a running workout with a group that had no member running over 24 mins. in a 5k until I joined it (29something today). I find that it helps to leave the ego at home and just enjoy the benefits of the workouts!
A good principle to apply to my fifty. BTW, is there any deadline on this 50? I never know what the masters' workouts will consist of, but I notice not much emphasis on fast 50s (longer-distance sets with some 50 drill/50 swim alternating--but I've only had a couple workouts w/ this coach... I like her workouts--they seem focused on helping with technique, which I certainly can use). If not in practice, next swim on my own I'll do some 50s and see what develops. And I'll tell you the gory details, ha ha!
