OK, Tear it apart. See anything that I should be focusing on? YouTube- Feb 7th Meet - 100 Free - USMS Masters Swimming Meet - Heat 5
  • Yep, 1:00.68 about 2 1/2 seconds off my best, but I had just finished the 400IM and I just could not push the turnover or kick. I think the stroke mechanics are the same for analysis purposes.
  • Good advice Val. 100 free is first event next meet and I will be ready. Gotta remember to not breathe on the breakout strokes!!!!!

OK, Tear it apart. See anything that I should be focusing on? Yes....Don't enter the 400 IM before signing up for the 100 free. :) You were working on 4 to 6 cylinders instead of 8! It looked great. I think I saw you saw you breathe out of the turns. Stay down and milk the speed on each push-off. Really take advantage of the walls Great job. Save the 1000 and 400 IM for after the 100 next time. :)
  • Good point. I think I am guilty of dropping my elbows. I am also not finishing the way you say, but I've seen sprinters have early hand exits and sprinters who finish. I will definately experiment.

I was going to say the same thing on your pull. Notice the guy to your left (on the screen), he's getting way more power out of his strokes, way more of a surge. You must be slipping your hand or dropping your elbow under the water. Also, notice where his hand is coming out of the water, versus where yours is. See how is is flinging the water back out by his hip, whereas yours comes straight up somewhere around your waist? Work on finishing your stroke. A drill I like for this is called the "splash drill" (there's also one for breaststroke, so maybe a new naming is in order). Basically, at the back of every stroke, where your hand exits the water, throw the water up with your palm as high as you can. Will help you get a feel for what finishing your stroke can do.

I stopped running 5 years ago and it's been all swimming since. I miss running!! Sorry to hear that. Strange, every time you post, I picture a runner for some reason.

DOH and sorry for calling you Todd.
  • it looks like you came up too soon off the start. Put in some SDKs off the blocks. You came up later off the walls. Good time considering you just did the 400 IM.
  • SolarEnergy, By best 50 is 26.08. I could have gone harder but I mentally talked myself out of it because the 400IM took alot out of me. I think I basically went out like a 200. I keep my splits, but unless there is a video, I don't count during a sprint. I usually count in a 500. Splits for that race was 28.97 1:00.68 (31.71) qbrain, Good observation about the head position. I will try to keep it down. I agree the reach can be better to improve SPL, I think 17 during the middle 50 is too many!! I will work on a better catch and better EVF. I drill this alot using catch up with paddles or swim with fists. I stopped running 5 years ago and it's been all swimming since. I miss running!! Tom, Yes, I tend to do the Lezak thing for the 50 and 100, but I do a few SDK's in the 200. Not sure which is faster right now. Next 100 I will try to get out farther with four SDKs.
