Do you all think that paddle drills really work? I have mixed feelings about whether they are assisting my stroke or confusing it.
  • Do you all think that paddle drills really work? I have mixed feelings about whether they are assisting my stroke or confusing it. I have only swum or pulled with a paddle- is this what you are referring to as a drill? I like using them about once a week, and I'm curious to see if there is anything else that can be done with paddles since I don't really do anything drill-like while using them. FWIW, I don't think they confuse my stroke, though.

After a heavy kick set, it is a good idea to do a paddle-pull buoy set. I can focus on high elbow pull and stroke finish with this set.

I learned using the old square Speedo paddles. I remove the wrist strap and use only the middle finger loop. Initiating recovery with the hand vs. the elbow &/or shortening the stroke's finish causes the heel of the paddle to pull away from the hand. Also, this set-up really helped refine my backstroke catch and finish.
