swam my first ever 1hr postal this morning and was able to do 5,000. It was actually kinda fun, but I admit, I kinda got bored after the first mile. How does distance stack up for a 43yr old?

you might want to recalculate that. It's actually a hair under 1:01/100.
He probably thinks in meters. It's 1:06+ per 100 meters.
