  • The beauty of US airlines: (1) Fly from Portland, OR to Atlanta, round-trip. Cost: $580. or (2) Fly from Portland, OR to Birmingham, Alabama VIA Atlanta. Cost: $340. WTF?!:bitching: Now, if I can only find a way to get my bags off at the Atlanta stop-over... I get multiple flights at $429 on expedia connecting through Denver. Or you can book the Birmingham flight, cram everything in a carry-on and just sneak off in Atlanta. I'd check a decoy bag through though; as I believe the fine polyester clad TSA folks find people traveling without checked luggage to be highly suspect and are likely to detain you for a lengthy strip search or worse.
  • I have a question for you veterans. I just started swimming competitions, so I know that I won't qualify, but can I come and cheer you all on? I live close enough that it's a day trip for me. Are we allowed to do that?
  • Alison, I'd like to meet you too! Need to find some reasonably priced flights. If it's any cheaper, try Birmingham, AL. Some people who live in Atlanta like to fly in and out of there because they can get cheaper flights. It's about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta and you'd have to get permission to take the rental car out of the state. But it's an option.

Are we allowed to do that? It would be great for you to go. You can swim 3 events without qualifying times, and if it's close to you, you should definitely plan on attending for at least a day. It's a really fun meet, wonderful racing and lots of old friends catching up with one and another. --mj
  • Definitely do the 500. It's one of the few races where we get to remove that pesky age group bracketing. They don't always do that; in Clovis they didn't.
  • Probably not going, for the first time since I started swimming again. I find the time difference to be a bigger problem as I get older, and it's a long way to go to swim sub-par. Will probably swim at Federal Way in April instead. Having said that, I will really miss the duel with Guthrie, Weissman, Dicks, et al, and I am open to convincing...:D Jim, I agree with Allen: 1. Oregon needs you. 2. Your duels with Guthrie were epic. The hundred was one for the ages; I think you need a re-match. Video is here: oregonmasters.ning.com/.../2009-usms-scy-nationals-4549-1 3. I enjoyed being able to heckle our flyer on our medley relay at Clovis about whether our breaststroker (that be you) would out-split him. He hung on, but only by the skin of his teeth and it made him sweat. I never would have let him live it down if you'd taken him. 4. I just bought a size 28 B70, because I think you're a bit taller/bigger than I am and I seem to recall you running a 28. Looking at it, and assuming just for the sake of argument that I can actually get into the damn thing, I'm pretty sure I will look and feel completely like a stuffed sausage. You should find that mildly amusing. 5. It's an Olympic pool facility. BillS it will be nice to meet you there after living near you in Hillsboro until I had to move. Likewise! I have done a pretty crummy job of meeting people at past Nationals, but I will try and find you.

Yea, I have an old NWA (not the rap group) credit, but of course Delta/NWA is practically double the cost of Midwest, Frontier, etc on Expedia... I will decide tonight whether or not to attend.:blah:
