USMS final decision on tech suits for masters

FINA issued Ruled,www.usms.org/.../showpost.php Soon the USMS rules committee will issue their ruling. SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal, the 2010 seasons started on Jan 1, 2010 & the rule began on Jan 1, 2010. SCY is an American thing. The 2009 - 2010 SCY season began on June 1st 2009 and ends on May 31st 2010. Will the new suit rules take effect immediately or at the end of this season? I've heard rumours we might be able to wear full body suits at 2010 SCY Nats. Look forward to finding out what the USMS ruling will be for SCY. 1/15/10 FINA BUREAU CONSIDERS SWIMWEAR RULES FOR MASTERS The FINA Bureau has considered Masters swimwear rules. The USMS Rules Committee will learn the results shortly and then will immediately reconsider the USMS swimwear rules in cooperation with the USMS Executive Committee. All USMS members will be notified of any changes to USMS swimwear rules and the effective date. Regardless of any changes to the USMS swimwear rules, the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretations will apply for the duration of the One Hour Postal Swim being conducted in January 2010. from www.usms.org/.../20100115swimsuits.pdf you'll find the update at http://www.usms.org/rules/

Can't be any harm in allowing the suit at SCY meets through May 31. I sure hope they rule this way. I have yet to wear my B-70 nero comp that I bought in mid-June 2009.

but will they really??? if my age group is at all an indication, there are few times in the database currently that will end up on the TT, either with or without suits. because really, who has actually done their taper meet for the SCY season already? anyone? anyone? bueller? bueller? bueller? ;) that being said, i'm with speedo, psyncw, and knelson. let's get rid of them for the rest of this SCY and move on... (also just my :2cents: ) As much as I think they went too far backward in time to 1999, I agree with swimmie, speedo, knelson. FINA made their decision. Time to move on. Get rid of the suits immediately.
  • does anyone know if this will impact our ability to get our times submitted to the USA-S SWIMS database? for SCY of course. Probably won't count...since usms is allowing tech suits for scy when usa-s doesn't wonder if they thought of that when they made their decision... i know it doesn't impact a lot of us, but it does impact some of us.
  • wonder if they thought of that when they made their decision... Duel-sanction and USA-S meets were mentioned as an objection to June 1. For swimmers in those meets, the ruling is unfair. There are some swimmers live in LMSCs so small that they depend on such meets for the bulk of their swimming times.
  • If the Executive Committee is reading, Remember: the House of Delegates, who represents the USMS population, already stated (through a vote) that the USMS population wants the tech suits out of the pool. It would be a nice gesture to those of us who attended the USAS Convention and spend countless unpaid hours working for and on behalf of USMS if you would honor our vote by ensuring that USMS will be following the Fina decision for all courses effective immediately (since we're already past our October voting preference start date for SCY). Thank you!
  • This was exactly my thinking - how many people swim a tapered SCY meet between June 2009 and March 2010? I have. Last year, I tapered for the Auburn meet in Feb. Because I wasn't going to Nats. I imagine I'll do that again sometime. Also, there may be times in events you cant taper for but would still like to count.
  • but I'll just aim to be in better shape by next fall to overcome the suit affect. Why? Do you train in a full body tech suit? What I mean is this: I've trained hard and swum fast the last two SCM seasons in B70 bodysuits. I fully realize (and enjoy) the fact that full body tech suits allow for drops in time. I still want to go faster in Fall 2010 SCM, but realize I'll only be in jammers. Ergo: I'd better get in even better, faster shape come fall 2010 to beat my 2009 SCM times.
  • The ruling is perfectly fine for USA/USMS dual-sanctioned meets, or for USMS times submitting to USA Swimming. There are _already_ differences in rules between USA Swimming and USMS. For example, you can't do a frog kick in butterfly in USA Swimming. It has always been a requirement that times for USA Swimming SWIMS must comply with USA Swimming rules. You have never been able to submit a butterfly time that you did with frog kick into USA Swimming SWIMS. Any observing official should know that, and would not approve the observed swim. For the next few months, we just have another area where the two rule books are different. If you want your times to count for USA Swimming, then you must follow USA Swimming rules. Nothing new. -Rick
  • While I wish I would have gotten around to swimming Masters before this winter, I feel fortunate to have missed the tech suit era. Much as one feels fortunate when driving by a multi-car pile-up on the freeway.
