Soon the USMS rules committee will issue their ruling.
SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal, the 2010 seasons started on Jan 1, 2010 & the rule began on Jan 1, 2010.
SCY is an American thing. The 2009 - 2010 SCY season began on June 1st 2009 and ends on May 31st 2010.
Will the new suit rules take effect immediately or at the end of this season?
I've heard rumours we might be able to wear full body suits at 2010 SCY Nats.
Look forward to finding out what the USMS ruling will be for SCY.
1/15/10 FINA BUREAU CONSIDERS SWIMWEAR RULES FOR MASTERS
The FINA Bureau has considered Masters swimwear rules. The USMS Rules Committee will learn the results shortly and then will immediately reconsider the USMS swimwear rules in cooperation with the USMS Executive Committee. All USMS members will be notified of any changes to USMS swimwear rules and the effective date. Regardless of any changes to the USMS swimwear rules, the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretations will apply for the duration of the One Hour Postal Swim being conducted in January 2010.

Speaking of FINA, did anyone else notice that they issued their proclamation on January 10, banning tech suits effective January 1? I think there may have been a FINA sanctioned meet or two in that interim 10 day period, too.
But hey, I have to give FINA credit for confirming for me just what a messed up organization it is by issuing a retroactive ruling.
The meet director for the sunbelt championships (Charlotte) is supposed to email all registered participants this week on what to wear Jan 30/31.
I would like to wear this unused finis hydrospeed short john I've had since September. Even though I paid just $40 for it, I'd rather wear that then spend $80 on jammers dedicated for meets.
My biggest hope is that a decision is made very quickly.
Personally, I would also hope that USMS would not allow the tech suits for the remainder of the SCY season. We complain about what to do with the ARs/WRs set in full body suits, and then we want to swim with them again at our fastest SCY meet of the year- where who knows how many new USMS/World records would be set in bodysuits?
The TT rankings will be sketchy, but I'd rather see this years' TT screwed up than the records. It seems to me that we'd just be maximizing the impact of them on our sport should they be made legal through nats :2cents:
i agree with you 100% Speedo! Everyone had a chance to swim a meet in SCY before the Masters technical committee met in January if it was important for them to use their tech suits this SCY season. The committee ruled to ban tech suits, so I feel usms should follow.
Tech suits are allowed for USMS until they announce otherwise. So if the meet happens before an announcement, the B70 is completely legit.
It's a little more complicated if the meet is SCM, because FINA has already issued a ruling that the suits are not legal. In that case, if you want to be sure the swim is to count for FINA TT or a record, you should wear a FINA-approved suit even if USMS hasn't ruled yet.
I really wish one of the rule gurus would speak up as I don't believe that is true.I thought USMS rules state that we automatically follow FINA unless the appropriate committee meets and makes a ruling.If this is true then the suits are out now until USMS says otherwise.I am not a rules guru so I may be wrong,someone who really knows what the rule is please HELP.
Me, too - I agree. You have to draw the line somewhere and most people assumed the line was going to be drawn on Jan 16. So put it in ink and let's go!

but will they really??? if my age group is at all an indication, there are few times in the database currently that will end up on the TT, either with or without suits. because really, who has actually done their taper meet for the SCY season already? anyone? anyone? bueller? bueller? bueller? ;)
that being said, i'm with speedo, psyncw, and knelson. let's get rid of them for the rest of this SCY and move on...

As much as I think they went too far backward in time to 1999, I agree with swimmie,speedo, knelson. FINA made their decision. Time to move on. Get rid of the suits immediately.
I concur as well, ban the suits now cause that means we can move on and be done with this, until they change their minds in June.
