USMS final decision on tech suits for masters

FINA issued Ruled,www.usms.org/.../showpost.php Soon the USMS rules committee will issue their ruling. SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal, the 2010 seasons started on Jan 1, 2010 & the rule began on Jan 1, 2010. SCY is an American thing. The 2009 - 2010 SCY season began on June 1st 2009 and ends on May 31st 2010. Will the new suit rules take effect immediately or at the end of this season? I've heard rumours we might be able to wear full body suits at 2010 SCY Nats. Look forward to finding out what the USMS ruling will be for SCY. 1/15/10 FINA BUREAU CONSIDERS SWIMWEAR RULES FOR MASTERS The FINA Bureau has considered Masters swimwear rules. The USMS Rules Committee will learn the results shortly and then will immediately reconsider the USMS swimwear rules in cooperation with the USMS Executive Committee. All USMS members will be notified of any changes to USMS swimwear rules and the effective date. Regardless of any changes to the USMS swimwear rules, the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretations will apply for the duration of the One Hour Postal Swim being conducted in January 2010. from www.usms.org/.../20100115swimsuits.pdf you'll find the update at http://www.usms.org/rules/

That would seem to make the most sense. We're almost 8 months into the 2009-10 SCY season. I also noticed that the 2009-10 SCY Meet Results database already has 47 SCY meets in it (compared to 193 all of 2008-09.) FINA issued Ruled,www.usms.org/.../showpost.php Now the USMS rules committee needs to issue their ruling. SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal. SCY is an American thing. • My :2cents: attached :) Love it and agree. See my blog for more details but I am in serious mourning. I knew the day was coming but it doesn't make it easier. :bitching: :badday:
  • I just hope they make a decision soon. I've got a meet next weekend and would prefer to wear my B70 if I could! Tech suits are allowed for USMS until they announce otherwise. So if the meet happens before an announcement, the B70 is completely legit. It's a little more complicated if the meet is SCM, because FINA has already issued a ruling that the suits are not legal. In that case, if you want to be sure the swim is to count for FINA TT or a record, you should wear a FINA-approved suit even if USMS hasn't ruled yet.
  • I don't know why USMS didn't have contingent decisions in place already so that it would be automatic regardless of how FINA ruled. It's frankly ridiculous that there is *still* uncertainty at this point. I'm with everybody else in that it's time to rip the band-aid off and be done with it. I have a meet this weekend and I don't want to compete against folks in their B70s (or be tempted to pull mine out of the mothballs).

It's not a taper meet, but I'd love to see how I'm doing relative to last year in my 1650 and I wore a B70 last year. If we're going to complete this SCY season including nationals in full body suits, I'll continue to wear mine, then switch over to jammers for LC.
  • So, we can wear our B70s through January, is that right?
  • So, we can wear our B70s through January, is that right? No, tech suits are allowed for masters in SCY until USMS says otherwise. I would imagine an announcement is coming soon. Personally, I hope we keep them for yards. (I never complained about records being set in the suits, so there is no hypocrisy for me.) And I still have suits to wear out, so I'll happily swim some more in my so-called legal "bandaid."
  • I'm sleep deprived 3 days straight (with very sick kids) and at "work" so I'm not sure if the hypocrisy comment is aimed at me? If it is: I think it is beyond ridiculous to ban the suits now. The damage (to the record books) has been done. From the beginning, people were saying that they should be banned b/c of the obvious "aid" they provide. I agreed/still do. I admit that I swam faster with that suit than I deserved to. But I also know that I have swum faster without it in the past. However, now that the cat is out of the bag, the can of worms has been opened, or any other cute little animal metaphor you can think of, the suits should stay, or the records set in the suits should go (a whole other topic I realize). FINA is again changing the playing field, or at least the equipment. Obviously, they have been banned (with good reason). My thought now is that the people who broke those records wearing any banned suit will have a good challenge in front of them. I hope that FINA learned a valuable lesson with this whole debacle. And if that wasn't aimed at me, oh well. :bolt:
  • Definitely wasn't, girl! It was in response to something posted above. Hope the kids are better soon!
  • Thanks, I wasn't sure. I'm exhausted, and unfortunately off to a meeting to find out about doing my masters (in one year!). Yikes :afraid: Of course I'm not going to do it if it cuts into swim-me time :D
