FINA issued Ruled,www.usms.org/.../showpost.php
Soon the USMS rules committee will issue their ruling.
SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal, the 2010 seasons started on Jan 1, 2010 & the rule began on Jan 1, 2010.
SCY is an American thing. The 2009 - 2010 SCY season began on June 1st 2009 and ends on May 31st 2010.
Will the new suit rules take effect immediately or at the end of this season?
I've heard rumours we might be able to wear full body suits at 2010 SCY Nats.
Look forward to finding out what the USMS ruling will be for SCY.
1/15/10 FINA BUREAU CONSIDERS SWIMWEAR RULES FOR MASTERS
The FINA Bureau has considered Masters swimwear rules. The USMS Rules Committee will learn the results shortly and then will immediately reconsider the USMS swimwear rules in cooperation with the USMS Executive Committee. All USMS members will be notified of any changes to USMS swimwear rules and the effective date. Regardless of any changes to the USMS swimwear rules, the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretations will apply for the duration of the One Hour Postal Swim being conducted in January 2010.

You should be happier now.
I am. I am. I once was blind, but now I see.
Nonsense. I just prefer and enjoy racing in my tech suit, which I will have worn for almost every meet for two years. I'm a speed junkie; it's more fun; it's my racing gear. (Who wants to wear their practice gear on race day?) I like the only gear we swimmers got.
Race to your hearts content. The rule just means that if you cheat, your times won't count. Pretty fair to me. There's no rule stopping fun. Heck, you and I have been doing it for fun for years.
Wait, I must repeat, your times won't count. Whew, that felt good.
Have fun, speed out.
I seem to recall Midas saying in an earlier thread that he would henceforth only use jammers to avoid hypocrisy since he supported the tech suit ban and thinks "cheating" tech suits are ruining the sport? :bolt:
I'm using my B70, naturally (which is a "2010 legal suit" in SCY). My $100 suit only has a few swims in it. Plus, I will be celebrating my second anniversary of wearing almost exclusively B70 at every meet I've swum in. :)
I don't think bodysuits or tech suits ruined the sport. I think a bunch of whiners that only wanted certain athletes to remain on top because the company couldn't produce a better suit have tried to ruin the sport by setting it back a decade plus.
But, FINA made their decision to outlaw the suits. So, I am curious to how many of us that think usms made the wrong decision in still allowing will use them since other people will still use them.
This probably isn't what you are implying, but I don't think folks who disagree with the ruling but will still wear tech suits are necessarily hypocritical:
:
No, I am not implying that at all that people would be hypocritical if disagreeign with the ruling but still using them since they are legal.
I am just curious to see what the trend will be for swimmers. I think for the majority of meets, I will use jammers. At atlanta, I may go with a bodysuit but I will have to see.
I believe I can and will swim faster in a jammer than I have in a bodysuit as I have continued to improve my training, worked on body position and have started more dryland work for strength training.
You've just proven to me that pro-techies are generally despicable people.
Just remember, one of your own carolina baby blue's is a tech suit lover...geek. Wait, that would actually prove your point even more.
What disappoints me most about masters swimming is that my choice has been taken away with the banning of the suits effective 6/1. I thought masters was all about fun and choice. Frankly, swimming a meet line up of 10 events over the course of two days including sprint to distance events was so fun in my tech suit which helped me to recover during and after each swim. Soon I will no longer have that option. I've done those line ups in practice suits, and it's hard as he##. That's a shame. As someone who has top 10 Fina rankings that distinction comes in last compared to having choice, fun, and options at meets. If I want the Nazi patrol, I can swim USS . . . or just log onto this message board. :)
Worst case I guess that on occasion I can still wear an illegal tech suit and simply be DQ'd. Will meet directors allow me to even swim or what?

Word.
I suppose you can choose to only touch with one hand in butterfly or breaststroke, too, but you'll be DQed for it. How is a suit rule different than any other rule?
Great point.
The two hand touch rules, IM order, etc. have all been in place for quite some time without any change. Newer rules such as dolphin kick during the *** pull out; backstroke flip turns; butterfrog are rules that help swimmers. Banning the suits after keeping them for a short while makes the swimming more difficult, no?

No sport with an organizing body provides unlimited choice to its athletes and competitors. The Tour de France has a minimum weight rule for bicyles. The NFL football has very specific physical specifications. The diving boards used in competition have exact specifications. Why should Masters swimming be any different?
You still have choices, just fewer of them.
Fort, you will have to forgive stillwater. When his diaper hasn't been changed in several days, he gets cranky.
And we have to forgive the various pro-techies. Daddy FINA and Momma USMS are taking away their pacifiers and security blankets and that's made them awfully cranky too! :D
