FINA issued Ruled,www.usms.org/.../showpost.php
Soon the USMS rules committee will issue their ruling.
SCM & LCM seems to be a done deal, the 2010 seasons started on Jan 1, 2010 & the rule began on Jan 1, 2010.
SCY is an American thing. The 2009 - 2010 SCY season began on June 1st 2009 and ends on May 31st 2010.
Will the new suit rules take effect immediately or at the end of this season?
I've heard rumours we might be able to wear full body suits at 2010 SCY Nats.
Look forward to finding out what the USMS ruling will be for SCY.
1/15/10 FINA BUREAU CONSIDERS SWIMWEAR RULES FOR MASTERS
The FINA Bureau has considered Masters swimwear rules. The USMS Rules Committee will learn the results shortly and then will immediately reconsider the USMS swimwear rules in cooperation with the USMS Executive Committee. All USMS members will be notified of any changes to USMS swimwear rules and the effective date. Regardless of any changes to the USMS swimwear rules, the June 1, 2009 USMS swimwear interpretations will apply for the duration of the One Hour Postal Swim being conducted in January 2010.

Just remember, one of your own carolina baby blue's is a tech suit lover...geek. Wait, that would actually prove your point even more.
I guess it's just you being you, then... :)
Banning the suits after keeping them for a short while makes the swimming more difficult, no?
No. Just slower. The 15 meter underwater rule on starts and turns is another example of a rule change that effectively slowed swimmers down.
And the suits were not, as you said, allowed only "for a short while." You could say the current fast suits have only been available for a relatively short amount of time, but there was never a rule specifically prohibiting them until now.
I miss the days of masters swim meets just being fun, people thankful to finish a 1650, without everyone worrying about the best gear and records.
Be careful what you ask for. I believe the suits helped swell our ranks and made meets much more competitive and interesting. I personally don't train for races "just to finish."
I am not sure about what suits to wear. one thing I have established, however, is that I can swim fast in either legs (my coverage of choice), jammers or a speedo.
I have a fspro and fs2 legs I bought for '07 nationals that don't have too much use in them, but are in the twilight of life. I have, nevertheless, had PBs in the fs2 all year long in all three courses. I bought a FS1 jammer earlier this year for a few races and also had some PBs and near-PBs in that too. In summer '08, I swam a meet exclusively in a speedo and had 4 PBs in events I regularly swim.
for people worried about swimming slower, i say to you, "man up, buttercup, and put in the proper training."

I don't know first-hand, as I haven't been to a meet for so long, but from what I've heard from participants and meet organizers is that meet participation here in Arizona has decreased substantially over the past 5-10 years. Meets that used to get 300+ participants more recently have only gotten 150 or less. The ASU team used to have 50%+ regularly participating....and that's dropped to 5-10%.
I face facts...I'm in the most competitive age group, and I'm nowhere near any records. There has to be some reasons to get me to a meet...

Yeah, Arizona meet participation does seem to be quite poor. I've been racing on & off since 2001 and have seen this, as well. Other parts of the country, though, seem to be growing.
As an aside, some east coast transplants to Arizona told me that they've found the general competitive nature here across business and sport to be far below that of the east coast. I took umbrage at that, but, maybe there's something to the comment. Too much resort lifestyle living doesn't light the fires, maybe?
This is just a sport...for fun. I really don't get what all the fuss is about. I ran a marathon last year, there were professionals who broke records, wearing fancy running gear...most were many just thankful to finish (I was in this category) wearing whatever struck our fancy (heck there were a few people dressed like Elvis).
Swimming a meet dressed like Elvis will get you disqualified though.:D
Wow,
I haven't read so much boo hooing since, well, never.
Guess what, your not as fast without your expensive fancy cheating rubber suit. I guess that really is a hard pill to swallow for some.
What I"ve heard is that all you need to do is train harder, smarter, or maybe swim downhill with Terry.
I thought that it wasn't about the time you posted, the place you came in, or the person you beat, it was about, um, what?
Three cheers for the ruling!!!
Here is my question for those of us that think USMS has made the wrong decision by allowing the tech suits to continue though the scy season.
How many of us will use a bodysuit for USMS SCY meets and how many will start using 2010 legal suits?
I think Midas said something to the effect "if everyone else is going to use one..."
