Lost the battle with a Jeep windsheild last weekend and am supposed to swim in a meet next weekend. I'm not sure if I even have one, (refused treatment, Man I hate Hospitals!!), But sure seem to have the symptoms. Just thought I would get some input before jumping in and going for it! I did sit this week out of the water. I'm sure thats going to help the times!! :badday:
Sorry to say it, but if you really think you have a concussion you should skip the meet. As much as you hate hospitals, it would probably be worth at least calling your PCP as well. They should be able to give you advice as to when and how hard to push yourself with such an injury.
Hope you feel better soon.
Skip the meet and get to the doctor ASAP! DO NOT mess around with head injuries! Even if you feel fine now, small clots, brain bleeds, and strokes can occur. Don't mean to scare you, but it is really a good idea to get checked out!
Large bleeds in the bean can kill you quickly. Slow bleeds take their sweet time.
Slow bleeds in your mellon are hard to identify due to the fact that many of the signs and symptoms aren't terribly severe.
If you had trauma to your head, see a doctor.
My mantra has always been, "If I have sudden head trauma, I hope I crack my skull." Slow internal bleeds can squeeze your brain through the one opening at the base of your skull. If your skull is cracked the pressure from the bleeding might leak.
See a doctor. You wouldn't want to wake up dead.
I agree with everyone else. Skip the meet, GO to the DOCTOR. If you are experiencing symptoms that might mean there is swelling of your brain. Pressure on an area can cause permanent damage, which in turn has the potential to cause you lose some skills... did you hit your forehead?.... check out executive functioning and contra-cou concussion. What was that actress' name who experienced a head injury, refused treatement saying she was okay, then died? I do mean to scare you.
I hate hospitals and most MD's too, but there are somethings I wouldn't mess around with and a head injury is one.
GO TO THE DOCTOR.
Lainey
Without question: Doctor
The LAST thing I would want to do with those symptoms is getting a pool. Its easy enough to get a little woosy and dizzy in the pool and after a swim as it is. Don't screw around....go to the Doc.
