Birthday Boy Needs Suggestions

I have a birthday coming up in about a month :cake:and I am expected to "hint" what presents I want. I would appreciate any advice about the following: 1. MP3 for swimmers - what to look for, best makes etc. 2. A wrist watch with splits. Since I am far sighted:cane: it should have a reasonably sized display. And don't tell me to use the pool clock - I hate those antique thingamaroos with all the hands going around!
  • Can't talk to MP3 players, but I like the Timex Ironman watches. I have the model in the link below. In chronograph mode, it displays both the subtractive and cummulative splits, your choice of which is on the large center line and the other on the smaller lower line. Total laps displays on a smaller upper (which isn't shown when in time mode). I can usually make out the large center line with a quick glance in the middle of a turn, the other lines I pretty much have to stop to read. The large black button on the front is for splits, easy to find in the middle of turns. A drawback of these watches are the bands, on most models the bands are not replacable. I agree,Timex Ironman!!!
  • I don't think you can break those Ironman watches and I've kinda tried.

  • The Ironman watches are pretty indestructable - other watches I've had, some Casio and some Armitron, have a little cover ring on the face (cosmetic it seems) but they tear off easily, especially when contact is made with the lane lines. Plus the IM split features are so much better than the others I've had and the contrast on the face makes it easier to read quickly. Happy Birthday.
  • I have both the Ironman-an old one and so the band can be replaced-also the battery-I like my Speedo watch better because the display is larger and it resets to 0 after one hour so the display remains large-the Ironman does not reset and the seconds are difficult to read after one hour. Happy birthday-I just celebrated #60 with a 6000 meter workout.
  • Happy birthday-I just celebrated #60 with a 6000 meter workout. Well, since I'm only going to be 56 I guess I'll have a slight reduction.:applaud: To be honest, I can't see myself doing a 5600m. session. Even with an MP3 playing mellow rock.
  • Thank you all for the suggestions. Will look into the Ironman and the Speedo.
