Is it just me or do world records in short course meters lack the prestige of world records in long course? And are the 50's just not as big a deal as the longer races? Maybe I'm just showing my age?

It depends! Believe what you want! It is my opinion is that any swim that was or is a world record in any event individul or relay, any age group, is prestigous. You have to find your own meaning in the records. It is quite something to set a goal and go out and actually DO IT!!!!
That goes for USMS SCY National records, too.
