Whatevah! I think his commentary wasn't real smart. And he's said some bonehead things before as well. He's a public figure on national TV. It can't be a personal attack. I would say "chill," but it always annoys me when my kid says that so I won't.

And his comments were dea on and IMHO directed right at USA Swimming for not taking these event seriously. It' a joke to not have your best swimmers compete against the worlds best...and calling people names is always a personal attack.

Though I agree that USA Swimming needs to promote 50s like the rest of the World. Apparently, in some states they do, as evidenced by Cream Puff's latest exploits in the 50 fly.

None (humor usually has a :)). I'm stuck at a trade show in Vegas for the last 12 hours with rap blaring and far to many whack jobs hitting me up for freebies. I'm amazed how many "actors" are out there that a confident they can get me a product shot if they score this movie deal they are working on...Geek actually asked as well, apparently he thinks he's got a shot for a role in a "B" movie (porn?)called my "bike" is bigger, faster and shinier than yours".

But criticizing any race distance is really silly. The 50s in swimming are the equivalent of the 200 in track. And I'm sure the rest of the World that actually trained for them hardly think they're "worthless." Let's face it, they add excitement and variety. Much like the suits.
What kind of trade show is it, and what kind of product(s) are you hawking out there in the land of gila monsters and gambler-subsidized buffets?
As far as Rowdy Gaines goes, he seems to this layman swimming observer no better nor worse than the color commentators the networks seem to find for most sports. He doesn't bug me as much as that woman with the thick Southern accent that talks about diving.
But he's no *** Button, either.
The one thing that did kind of bug me about Mr. Gaines was his trying to recruit the saps among us in the Blue Frog pyramid scheme, fantastic cash opportunity that it may well be.
Did any of you guys see this shamelessness on Facebook? Did any of you take him up on the offer to sell the stuff to your teammates?

Fort....wake up...he is not being citical of the distance only the current directors thinking that USA Swimming won't take the 50's as "serious" events...if we did we would include them in our trials. Swimmers like you would be shut out in Shuberts world, instead of giving you a true shot at making the 50 back World Team they would just let the guy(s) who made the 100 "swim down"...not the same thing and therfore a joke because evryine else in the World is doing it the other way.

Fair criticism and nice of you not to call him names for doing it. I will however say that if you knew him the "recruiting" as you call it came from a far more humble place...he loves swimming/masters swimming and really wanted to try and get more people involved. Trust me...if ARG was wanting to put together a "super team" he wouldn't do it like that....he has the phone number of the people he would need and who would gladly sign on. I thought it was pretty cool actually that people who don't know him personally got an open invite to come and play...others seem to se it as an "idiot" being "elite".
