I think that college meets should really be LCM. In a perfect world, all swimming would be done in LCM. Seriously, we really need to move away from yards. At least, have all spring championships in SCM whether it is college, masters, age group, and high school swimming. USA really needs to get with the times in meters swimming. USMS is on the right back with their mainly SCM meets in the fall. :applaud:
I know that I do not need to point this out (a Canadian pointing this out is, well, certainly out of line) but the majority of college meets are duel meets, done in the home pool and therefor most of them are done in short course yards pools. I really have no idea how many universities and colleges have LCM pools easily available to them, but I doubt it would be even close to a majority.
No doubt the majority of NCAA Level I teams have LCM pools open to them (not Brigham Young though and I doubt U of Utah, and, unless things have changed, not University of Washington; competed against them and their pools are definetely SCM). From there on down to NCAA Level II and III as well as NAIA teams: I just do not see the smaller universities and colleges having LCM any time soon.
The reality is that, unless money starts falling out of trees in the USA just to build competition pools, the collegiate standards are going to remain in scy for years.
Swimming is swimming and most of the higher level swimmers convert back and forth with little effort. As far as the 50 sprint strokes go; Americans are always a challenge in any sport they contest so regardless of what Rowdy Gaines says, those races are important to the guys swimming them.
Rowdy.
Suit technology/innovation is moving at warp speed and what was considered "best" even a few months ago is obsolete.
And where were the Speedo folks last summer, when their suits were clearly superior? Did any of them admit "I only won/set a record because my suit is clearly superior"?
As an aside, Rowdy's latest comment: the stroke 50s are "worthless", except the 50 free: "I really like that 50".

I can agree that SC should be meters not yards, but ALL swimming in LCM? Puh-leeze.
