I noticed Ion Beza swam. I haven't seen him in a few years. Anyone talk to him?
I talked to him after he finished one of his races. Perhaps my hearing is getting worse, but his accent seemed much more pronounced that it did when I last saw him in Cleveland six years ago. He looks good but, perhaps somewhat predictably, was not all that happy about his swimming performance.
When I suggested he get a B70 or something akin to it, he shook his head and said that he wants to judge himself against himself consistently.
I could not tell if he had taken my recommendation to try Prozac. I always suspected he might have a touch of remediable swimming obsessionality; the same aflliction in those whose times are perhaps a little closer to national caliber times, seem often be overlooked, excused, and sometimes even admired.
Not so for the likes of Ion.
Or me, for that matter.
I say: let Ion back on these forums if he will have us! We have much to learn from him.
