I must be getting old, I have only entered my outdoor lap pool once since it opened on Memorial Day weekend. The water was 74, but the air temp was 80. Nights have dipped into the 40's and this morning, I planned to give it a try, however, it was 64 degrees and very windy, cloudy and the water temp was only 70. I should mention that no one was in the pool either. Every summer I run maniacly to the sports stores in hopes of finding a wetsuit that feels NOTHING like a wetsuit and come home empty handed.
So, who's swimming outdoors now, with or without a wetsuit, and what are your water temps?
I am in the Philly area and have been swimming outdoors a few times already but the Y that I swam outdoors in is heated so it wasn't an issue. The only problem was when we were swimming outside and the air temp was 55 degrees. When our group got done our workout, we grabbed our stuff and booked into the building. In the water, it was warm.
Tomorrow, I will swim outside in a non-heated outdoor pool so I am not looking forward to the cold water. No, I don't use a wetsuit. Our coaches say that the water temp is 70 degrees at the pool.
Our outdoor pool opened 3 weeks ago. The pool is heated by a geothermal system and water temps are in the high 70's to low 80's. In the morning when I workout the air temps are in the 40's. I'll swim outside every day until the pool closes at the end of September.
Lakes swim race in Reston last weekend was in the low 70s, plenty comfortable, probably hot if in a wetsuit.
Pools are chilly unless heated. The outdoor 50m pool at Hains Point in DC is heated this year, but not overheated, workouts started this week.
Fresh air, summertime, half the turns.

Mine is not heated, and lap swim is only in the morning so it is cold IMO, with wind and air temps in the mid 60's or low 70's. But too warm for a wetsuit. So I will wear two suits and two caps and just do it. but I'll be pushing hard to keep blood circulating!:bliss:
The indoor SCM pool I swim at feels like your swimming in the ocean. Whenever I get into for the first time it takes the breath right out of me because its so cold.
Good thing is I know when I get a workout because the waters not freezing anymore :D
Sans doute, the Great Lakes are not the Great East, but we have been swimming since May 7, water ca. 52.5, air temp was 48.

wow, you are a trooper. wow!
People didn't get in the pool today because they thought it was too cold. Of course, that is nothing compared to what temperatures you have to deal with.

OMG, I cannot imagine that, do you wear a wetsuit or what???? How do you acclimate after swimming indoors all winter?
MY kids start swimming outdoors after Memorial Day and Friday was the first practice for them. Even the littlest swimmers braved the cold water. I could have swum in there for my workout, but chose the indoor pool-I'm the first to admit that I'm a wuss. :afraid:
