stroke per length of each style

Hi all, talking about the stroke per length (SPL), which style is supposed to have the least SPL (I mean generally--I know it varies for individuals), and which the most? My guess is breaststroke has the least SPL. What about free and back? (butterfly probably has the most since there is no glide?)

Now would I be counting strokes on back with or without pulling on the lane lines?

fly has plenty of glide. Agreed. My fly is all about the glide.

I'm about the same per 25 of fly and ***, not too surprising if you think about it. Same with back and free. --mj

If you count a full cycle in free(one pull with each arm)as a pull there isn't much difference for me between free(6 1/2-7 per 25) and BR(5-7 per 25.)

Not sure about others, but for 25 yards, my SPL in practice is typically: Free: 14-16 ***: 7-9 Fly: 8-10 Back: can't count that high
