University of Washington Cutting Swimming

University of Washington is cutting both their men's and women's swimming programs. I hope that the people who do their Masters training there aren't affected. Usually, it's the men's program that gets cut. But, here, they cut both of the swimming programs. www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../21029.asp

  • This is very sad news indeed. The UW football team has shown to be trouble through the years, getting suspended twice, I think, for recruiting malfeasance. The swim programs routinely have the highest GPAs and graduation rates of all sports, yet get the axe first off. The ASU program is ok for a couple of more years, until an endowment is in place to make it permanent. If UW only has 6 lanes, that is a problem to recruit with and establish an endowment. They had some great swimmers come from that program in the 70s (Robin Backus, Steve Tallman, etc.) Did Scott Lautman go there?
