University of Washington Cutting Swimming

University of Washington is cutting both their men's and women's swimming programs. I hope that the people who do their Masters training there aren't affected. Usually, it's the men's program that gets cut. But, here, they cut both of the swimming programs. www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../21029.asp

  • Very sad. How many colleges or universities are there in Washington that have a swim team? There are a few, but UW was the only Division I men's team in Washington. Actually the only one in the Pacific Northwest. No schools in Oregon or Idaho have a men's team either. Should this decision hold I believe the closest University with a Division I men's team will be Cal. That's about 800 miles away. I'm probably wrong about this, but I can't think of any closer teams. Actually Seattle University is transitioning to Division I, but it will probably be a long road before they are really a viable team at the DI level in swimming.
