University of Washington Cutting Swimming

University of Washington is cutting both their men's and women's swimming programs. I hope that the people who do their Masters training there aren't affected. Usually, it's the men's program that gets cut. But, here, they cut both of the swimming programs. www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../21029.asp

  • Revenue, expenses, etc. for every NCAA school can be found here:http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/ Holy cow, the nirvana of sport's figures. I could get obsessed by this site. Of note - it does not appear to include facility expenses and may only include game day expenses. Did you notice that it costs $46K per football participant and $8K per swimming participant? And, football expenses are 3 times all other sports combined (excluding basketball)? A few schools I looked at showed that expenses for football were the exact same amount as revenue, which of course is not remotely possible to be to the penny. Fishy accounting. This is a great website and shows exactly how out of whack things are.
