Blue 70 question

I'm sure there have been plenty of threads on this before, so sorry for starting a new thread. anyways, I have a sizing question. I am 5'10 195. I am thinking of either a 28 or 30. I am much bulkier in my upper body and in the chest area. What size would you suggest?
  • Jim's suit has swum for me (I say the suit swam because we all know it's all the suit; the swimmers have little or nothing to do with it any longer) for a total of 6 days in 3 separate meets. It swam 15 individual events plus 4 relays, covering a total of 3,900 yards exclusive of warm-up/cool-down swims. It should be reasonably tight still. I am 6'2" and currently 198ish. The suit feels a little short on me. I suspect it will fit Jim just fine, at least for purposes of our junk science experiment. I have a hunch it will fit just comfortably fine. Mine's got, I don't know - I've lost track, probably 75 swims +/- a gob, and still holding together well. Not a gap to be found anywhere on it. Not as tight as it once was, but still molding to my shape.
  • Okay, so we are all agreed. If I do extremely well, it is my talent. If I do extremely poorly, it's because the suit doesn't fit right. I must say that the odds of at least one of these hypotheses being born out by the junk science experiment are very high despite a relatively low sample size (p's office, "My balls are in your court."

While people are guessing sizes, how about this... I'm 5'9" and 225. I fit decently into a TYR Tracer Light size 38. Do you think they make a B70 I could get into? I'm pretty sure I would destroy one, but I'd like to hear from another fair sized dude who has done this experiment himself. I hope you realize that you'll be able to wear the existing B70 for just 8 months in competition (the remainder of 2009). Most do not believe the current B70 will pass the 50% permeability test that is required in January 2010. The current B70 suit has far more than 50% of its surface coated in the rubber-like material. Have you seen this yet? scaq.blogspot.com/.../this-is-huge-blueseventy-to-offer-200.html In theory if the swim skins are deemed illegal, suits purchased after 1APR09 are going to be eligible for $200 towards a legal B70 suit. It hasn't been officially announced but the source of the story is pretty solid.

Jim - was it a dude that was wearing a military style ball cap most of the weekend at the Pacific Masters Championship meet? If it's who I'm thinking of, he made me think that maybe I could get in one. Similar build but I think I'm a little smaller in the middle. Do you know if the suit just stretched out, or are some seams in danger of giving out?

I talked to Deano at B70 (VP marketing, iirc) a few months back about the suit status (since I had just bought one,) and to paraphrase, he said the suit was legal through 2009, but they would do as much as they could to make things right for their customers come 2010. My first thought was some sort of customer loyalty program. And this would seem to be it. My second thought was to get as many swims in it as possible in 2009.:D Of course, I bought mine in December. :( Gotta see what, if anything, they'll do for guys in my situation - I've only got three swims in it and may only get another 10 in before 2010. By the way, I'm 5'10", 180 and am in a 26 kneeskin. The 26 full body was too small for me. Jim - Thanks for the real world large-man-B70-stress-test update! I really like my Tracer, but all the cool kids have a B70 and I want to see what the big deal is all about... we'll see if the curiosity can get me to part with all that $$$

I'll let you know if I get a chance to swim in a B70 and can do some direct comparison. I did a write up on the Tracer for my website (www.robaquatics.com/.../tyr-tracer-light-review.html) and I have swam in it a lot. I have a sneaking suspicion the B70 is a little faster but the Tracer is probably a better deal if you want to wear a good suit at a lot of meets for a lot of swims. The stitching is super strong and the material has held up really well. I'm impressed with it. What I really want to get my hands on is a Rise or a Titan but apparently you can't buy either until later this year (I asked).

Btw, you've got the first part right but you spelled the last part wrong - it's C-L-E-M-M-O-N-S. Ha, ha - just kidding. About the name deal - not the suit size.
