Blue 70 question

I'm sure there have been plenty of threads on this before, so sorry for starting a new thread. anyways, I have a sizing question. I am 5'10 195. I am thinking of either a 28 or 30. I am much bulkier in my upper body and in the chest area. What size would you suggest?

    Get size 28. I'm 5'8 , 177.5 and I have size 26. I would even go for 24.
  • 30 will be too long for you. I wear a 30 and I'm 6'4" and it's easy to put on.
  • While people are guessing sizes, how about this... I'm 5'9" and 225. I fit decently into a TYR Tracer Light size 38. Do you think they make a B70 I could get into? I'm pretty sure I would destroy one, but I'd like to hear from another fair sized dude who has done this experiment himself. Robbie - we've got a guy that fits that description. He carries most of that weight between his shoulders and his waist, if you know what I mean. I helped him get into a size 30. Musta taken us 15 minutes the first time and we were both sweating profusely by the end of the ordeal. He swam in 6 events this past weekend (in the suit) and said it stretched just enough to allow him to get into and out of it without a whole lot of struggling by the end of the meet.
  • Jim - was it a dude that was wearing a military style ball cap most of the weekend at the Pacific Masters Championship meet? If it's who I'm thinking of, he made me think that maybe I could get in one. Similar build but I think I'm a little smaller in the middle. Do you know if the suit just stretched out, or are some seams in danger of giving out? That be him alright! Suit stretched a bit, seams didn't appear to be in danger of failing. He's gonna swim 3 events at Clovis in it.
  • Help! The great BillS is loaning me his B70 for CZ this weekend. He's got a size 30. I am 6' 1" and 182, a little pot-bellied, I suppose, but not third trimester style. Maybe late first trimester. Otherwise, I am a fairly frail and petite looking elderly individual. Anyhow, am I going to take on water? Should I seal the neck and armpit holes with duct tape? If any of you know Wally Dicks personally, I understand he is not going to be swimming but has a size 28 that he supposedly doesn't like. Could you call him and petition on my behalf for a loan in case the size 30 causes me to drag an additional 14 gallons of pool water around with me lap after lap? Yikes. At about 7 lb. per gallon, I shudder to think that my dry weight is 182, but my swimming weight could well be 280. It's going to be like living the Paul Wolfe experience but with the Jim Thornton musculature structure.
  • Jim - Thanks for the real world large-man-B70-stress-test update! I really like my Tracer, but all the cool kids have a B70 and I want to see what the big deal is all about... we'll see if the curiosity can get me to part with all that $$$ You're welcome. I'd be interested to hear of your assessment comparing the two. I was debating with myself whether or not to get a Tracer.

How many swims in it to date? It may still be pretty firm if it doesn't have like 50 or more swims in it already. Rarely, the top part around the back of the neck might open up a bit. Although it may feel like a HUMONGUS GAP has just opened, it's really only a small crevice and actually only allows a pint or two in.

I vote 28 and think you might consider a 26. I am 6' 195 and the 28 I just got (although slightly used) feels just a little loose. I think a 30 would be way too big. Yes, there was a thread on this earlier, and several guys about my size went with 28.

I hope I am not building it up too much, like a movie that fails to live up to its reviews. I had a wee bit of that with the FastPro, which took some of the sting out of its theft. Anyhow, I don't think I am going to make Olympic Trial cut times. But I would be lying if I said I won't be disappointed if I don't.

Jim's suit has swum for me (I say the suit swam because we all know it's all the suit; the swimmers have little or nothing to do with it any longer) for a total of 6 days in 3 separate meets. It swam 15 individual events plus 4 relays, covering a total of 3,900 yards exclusive of warm-up/cool-down swims. It should be reasonably tight still. I am 6'2" and currently 198ish. The suit feels a little short on me. I suspect it will fit Jim just fine, at least for purposes of our junk science experiment.
