HELP! Does anyone know a REALLY good pre treatment for hair?

HELP!:drown: The chlorine is really doing my hair in. And I've tried it all...Always rinsing hair before getting in water and putting a conditioner on before. Also, I always wash with chlorine removing shampoo afterwards... However, my hair still is so dry. Also I pay crap loads of money to have it colored and my blondish color hair is just turning an ugly, dull brassy color. EWWWWW! Can anyone recommmend a really good pre swim treatment for the hair? Come on...I know not all of you have a rat's nest on your head!!!hehe:joker:
  • Don't know about pretreatments, but try California Baby Swimmer's Defense. You have to order it online (you can get their regular baby shampoo in Target and WholeFoods, though, and I've heard that's also pretty good) www.cbnaturalliving.com/product_focus.html
  • Wearing a cap will keep it from the bad stuff much better

Good news: I know of a great pre-swim product. Bad news: I'm not sure they make it any more. The product is Redken Sun Shape Swim Cream. I have a 5-ounce bottle here; the UPC code is 4387703890. This stuff is great. In the summer we swim outdoors and the water temperature can get close to 90 degrees. When that happens I use a Lycra cap, which lets the water through. I can put this stuff on before I swim, do a 90-minute workout, and it's still in my hair afterward. I haven't seen it at my salon recently and I don't see it on the Redken web site. I do see a bottle on Ebay, here: cgi.ebay.com/REDKEN-SUN-SHAPE-SWIM-CREAM-FOR-SUN-&-SPORT-5oz_W0QQitemZ330308946435QQcmdZViewItem

You might try an after shampoo treatment. I stumbled upon a product called "ReSami" in a swim magazine once. It's expensive -- $21 for 30 capsules -- but I have noticed a definite difference in my hair texture since using it. My daughter is an age group swimmer with very long hair, and her hair looks great; it's not dry and stays shiny. I buy mine here: www.salonweb.com/.../capsules.htm My hairdresser swears by a leave-in silicone based spray: www.sleekhair.com/8604.html I use this as well, and it's good, but I think ReSami is superior. Good luck! *Edited to add that the silicon based products are supposed to protect the hair during your next swim, so they may help to protect your color.

I have used this before and just found some for blonde hair on Ebay for .99 cent!! Whoo hoo. I'm desperate. My hair just turns the funniest colors!
  • hi! i don't have a pre-treatment however a good weekly (cheap) chlorine removal treatment is to massage a 6 oz can of tomato paste into the length of your hair/roots. Wrap the whole mess in a plastic bag or saran wrap. Sit in a warm area for about 8 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and wash with shampoo. This makes hair soft, shiny, and takes the green swimmer look away....I'm not kidding!

I've also heard that it is the copper content in water that accounts for most of the greenish tint swimmer hair picks up. Me - I gave up on Lady Clairol and keep my hair cut short. I have plenty of other battles to fight besides stressing about my hair.
  • My hairstylist told me some time ago that I should get my hair wet with plain water first before getting into the pool, because your hair will be unable to absorb the chlorinated water if it has already absorbed clear water. It seems to keep my hair in pretty good shape to follow this advice.

Double cap a couple days a week to keep more chlorine out , Wet hair first condition and cap on the other days. On race days race and dont worry. Double capping idea for really dry hair and it works. www.geocities.com/.../teamswimcaps.html
