Looks like we might know the details in the next few days. Should be interesting. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- The head of swimming's governing body predicted Wednesday "a step forward" in rules governing high-performance suits used in setting more than 100 world records in the past year. FINA president Mustapha Larfaoui gave no details of decisions that could be made during a three-day executive meeting beginning Thursday, but his comments suggested that the organization would follow through with recommendations last month to place limits that include suits' thickness and buoyancy... • Everyone at the meeting should just TIVO back to the late 70s and 80s Before TiVo, you mean? You anti-tech types are so selective in your prejudices...
  • technology- 1. the use of scientific knowledge to solve practical problems, esp. in industry and commerce. 2. The methods and materials used to solve practical problems. Yep, the tech suit qualifies.
  • Galen- What the hell are you talking about?
  • Technology is what it is. You can't just apply it to some things and not to others. Sorry, but the suit is new technology. And back in the day (WAY back in Mesopotamia), the wheel was new technology. But then I guess you'd rather still be carrying all of your "stuff" on your back and hoofin' it. With your poor reasoning you'd argue the wheel wasn't technology either.
  • Dumplin' 2 - I have yet to understand your obsession with the tech suits. You don't swim, you don't compete, you don't have children who swim or compete. What is your great concern with this since it has absolutely no impact on your life? For those of us that do swim, it is something we enjoy. What is your issue with us enjoying the sport that you don't participate in? Also, you have never answered the question about the USMS team you "assist" with - please answer. Initials and location will suffice. Sports has always been about keeping up with the Joneses, do you really think you are breaking new ground with that logic?
  • I'm officially changing my name to Karen Jones. Now I'll be another cliche as I'll be trying to keep up with myself!
  • (or use the ENTER key to space paragraphs so everything isn't run on) so my occasional sin of mispselling doesn't amount to that much. :bitching: Since I'm pretty sure that paragraph dig is directed at me, here's my response since not only are you clueless on swimming, you are apparently clueless on grammar. par·a·graph l.yimg.com/.../pron.jpg (pl.yimg.com/.../lprime.gif) KEY NOUN: A distinct division of written or printed matter that begins on a new, usually indented line, consists of one or more sentences, and typically deals with a single thought or topic or quotes one speaker's continuous words. A single sentence MAY be a paragraph but it's not a requirement that each sentence be a paragraph. Once again you need to get a friggin clue. What you fail to realize and/or acknowledge is that no one argues that tech suits are expensive or that they have a limited useful life. But what you just seem to not get is that you have NO RIGHT to impose YOUR value system on me or anyone else. If you don't think they are worth the expense, so be it. But to try to equate tech suits with negative aspects of the economic woes is just....well....typical you as evidenced in your below comment. By the reasoning above, sub-prime mortgages, worthless securities, toxic assets, and over hyped and over priced swim suits may in fact qualify as a new form of technology!!! Pardon me for igniting everyone again, but I think all of you who get so bent outa shape over criticism of the suit fad are a way bit toooooo sensitive. :argue: By the way, note my new "service mark". :D If all you did was just 'criticize' then I doubt anyone would care. It's your holier than thou jusdgements from on high that set my teeth on edge. Plus the sad fact is that you just seem to get off on being a Troll.
  • By the way, note my new "service mark". :D Dolphin 2 "The Rush Limbaugh of the USMS Discussion board" Appropriate, given the cover of Newsweek.
  • I actually enjoy listening to Rush as he is an educated man. It's the uneducated and uninformed (by choice) that I ignore. Galen- I'm not bent out of shape, getting in shape maybe. Trip trap trip trap.

Before TiVo, you mean? You anti-tech types are so selective in your prejudices... These suits are just a glorified girdle or corsett and calling them "technology" is stretching things a wee bit. If we're going to that extreme in glorifying things like these suits as "technology", Playtex girdles should be listed on the NASDAQ. :bouncing: Dolphin 2
