If true, he seems to have a habit of screwing up in the very next Novembers after Olympics...

Eight People Arrested in Connection With Michael Phelps Bong Photo
Tuesday, February 10, 2009
Eight people connected to a South Carolina party where Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was allegedly photographed smoking pot from a bong have been arrested, WIS-TV reported.
Officers from the Richland County Sheriff's Department nabbed seven of the suspects for possession of marijuana and the eighth for dealing, according to the station.
One arrest included the suspected owner of the bong — who wasn't even at the party, but was allegedly trying to sell the pipe on eBay for $100,000, WIS reported.....

Petition Against Sheriff Lott for Arrests Related to Michael Phelps
www.huffingtonpost.com/.../petition-against-sheriff_b_165717.html
Richland County, South Carolina Sheriff Leon Lott has decided to spend his department's time and money arresting people for marijuana possession related to a photo of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps doing what is known by experts as a 'bong hit'. In fact, from a public health perspective much less harm was done...but if public health is Sheriff Lott's concern, he might consider conducting raids on any of South Carolina's Cracker Barrel Restaurants......
Market forces dictate salaries of employees. That's the way it works in capitalism. Fairness is irrelevant.
Nope. There are all kinds of rules and legislation to limit the overt greed inherent in capitalisim. Some of them are necessary. Some are over reaching. I can't blame an athlete for grabbing the pot of gold. I can blame the obscene professional sports industry's monopoly.

For the most part companies are allowed to pay their employees whatever they want as dictated by market forces. This probably encompasses about 95-99% of all salaries in the US grossly. Of course, the other 1% earns about 75% and that's where people start whining about fairness.
