New trend regarding swimcaps

Ande- Thank for the tip. I had noticed at the Olympics the swimmers' caps looked completely free of wrinkles. What size Aqua-V do you wear? Is the large for folks with long hair, or just guys with big noggins, like me?

if the new speedo cap is 5% faster than a standard cap, how much slower is it than a shaved head?

I wear two caps from time to time - not for speed! Some team caps are only printed on Laytex caps -- they hurt my hair. I put on a Silicone cap, then put on my team laytex cap. Also, by double capping, I've noticed that less water seeps into my cap because of the double seal. It's that simple.

Hmm... I've been putting on my goggles outside of my swim cap. In case my goggles filled up (hasn't happened in 20 years), I can rip them off easily enough. I don't have to put on the goggles until just before the race, so they stay dry/fog free. And the goggle straps help keep the cap on, which has a tendency to slip off during the longer races. (Head a funny shape after too many knocks. :frustrated: )

if you have a lot of hair, wearing two caps can be helpful for practical reasons. you have one cap to hold your hair on... then on go your goggles, then cap #2. A related reason would be to prevent your goggles from tangling with your hair, but not wanting to have the straps on the outside of the cap.

Double capping can provide a better seal to keep hair dry as noted by mermaid ..example www.geocities.com/.../teamswimcaps.html but thats not the reason these top swimmers do this . Its got to do with the streamlining . I dont really get it but there was a wierd outer cap two years back like a turtles hard shell . One was made by Speedo and cost some 80 dollars. Well thats good for the 300 dollar speed suit. When your in that group every 100th of a second counts. Ina sense people will only be able to swim but so fast.. Can a person swim 15 miles a hour.. No way. So these swimmers I think are approching the outer limits of speed and now the game will be who has the best equipment.

i have always used two caps. i find that it is way more confortable, considering my club sells their silicone ones for $20. i just go with a cheap silicone cap and than a latex one from my clb on top. my goggles seem good and tight and i am just use to it.
