  • 2009 USMS Short Course National Championships 5/7/2009 - 5/10/2009 Fresno, CA www.usms.org/.../scnats09 Are you going? My coach says my attendance is "non-negotiable", as in mandatory. I'll be there.
  • My coach says my attendance is "non-negotiable", as in mandatory. I'll be there. Me, too. I'm not sure about the DH (darling hubby). He has ways of ignoring said coach that I have yet to master. And he is saying he will not attend. And he's asking me to check QT's for him (which he has made) and then declaring that he's too slow. Count 1 for certain for our family, 1 maybe.
  • Yes, I plan to attend. I see this year they are allowing swimmers to enter both the 1000 and 1650 as long as they've made the time standard in both. Don't think I will, but nice to have the option! Kirk, I heard that they allowed this before. Maybe they stopped it for a few years and now, they are allowing it again. From what I heard about nationals, I am sure that you will get enough recovering. Heck, if I do Indy, I might do both the 1500 and 800. Of course, I will get my 800 split from my 1500 since the 1500 is first. This way, if I fall apart in the 800, it won't be a big deal.

Yes! Since it's only a couple hour drive for me I'm definitely planning on being there at least Saturday and Sunday, hopefully Friday too. In the meantime I need to work on making some q-times so I can swim a bunch of events!
  • My coach says my attendance is "non-negotiable", as in mandatory. I'll be there. If it is so mandatory to go, then your coach should front some of your travel expenses. If you don't go, are you kicked out of practice or something, or worse kicked off the team. Geeh, what if you have Real Life thing that weekend.
  • I heard that they allowed this before. Maybe they stopped it for a few years and now, they are allowing it again. I think it's facility dependent. Since the Clovis facility has two 50 meter pools they are able to run three courses simultaneously for the D events. With only two courses running allowing swimmers to do both could make for an exceptionally long day on Thursday. The last time I remember where they could also do this was Ft. Lauderdale back in 2005 . I agree there should be plenty of recovery time between the two events, but I'm thinking about the meet as a whole. I'm usually running on fumes as it is by Sunday. Adding another event on Thursday probably wouldn't help!

No, planning on going to LC Nationals this year.
  • If it is so mandatory to go, then your coach should front some of your travel expenses. If you don't go, are you kicked out of practice or something, or worse kicked off the team. Geeh, what if you have Real Life thing that weekend. I should have clarified this. He actually said "tell your wife it's non-negotiable". He knows that I fly for free, courtesy of marrying a now-former flight attendant. He also knows I like beer. A lot. The coach, who shall remain anonymous but whose initials are Paul Jones, is going, used to coach down there somewhere, and is really just looking for someone to party with. The actual swimming is far down or perhaps not even on the list of the reasons the trip is mandatory. He would never throw me off the team, because I have hosted a couple of team parties where I fed him beer. We have loads of non-drinkers and "1 beer or glass of wine only for me, thank you" types on the team, but not so many still willing to do beer bongs or engage in the lost art of punching a hole in the bottom of the can, then popping the top and shotgunning a 16oz tall boy. It's good to be needed.
