US 2008 Paralympian Swimmer, Marin Morrison has passed away
Former Member
Hi,
It is sad that Marin never grew old enough to swim as a master, but she wrapped a lifetime of swimming into her 18 years. She passed away this morning, after fighting an aggressive brain tumor for the last 4 years of her life.
She swam at our Aquatic Center here in Bellevue, Wa. and was an inspiration to all who met her. She was a swimmer, afterall.
She concluded her swimming career this fall in Beijing, China, where she competed in three events.
The local ABC affiliate has been following her for the last few years and many in the area have followed her journey.
Here are a few links to some stories that KOMO TV4 have done on her. (a channel who's number one anchor has been battling a brain tumor for almost a decade)
Her story
Her Final Beijing Prep
Her Olympic Story on NBC (there will be tears )
Her Charity with Hurley
Her Passing
With all the challenges that were going on in her life, you could see that each day that the session in the pool was the best part of the day. And isn't that how it is for all of us?
She inspired us and we will miss her.
Tonite, I bet she is excited to be getting back into the swing of two 'a days, and swimming the fastest times of her life.............and not needing a tech suit to do it:angel:.
An inspiring story to pass on.
Be healthy, Happy and Appreciative

Marin was so courageous and determined. She also had the ability to light up the pool with her smile and enthusiasm. I had the awesome priviledge to coach her her freshman season at Collins Hill HS. She swam USA club swimming at Swimatlanta the first season I coached there when she was about 11. I remember her sweet personality and awesome work ethic. We all knew she was going to the Olympics....no doubt. Then, at the State meet, her cancer started showing its ugly head. She got sick at our State dinner afterwards. That was four years ago. The battles and hardships she and her family have faced and overcome have been awe inspiring.
I picture her in heaven healed, out of pain and swimming to her heart's content with her 1000 killowatt smile on her face. She was an angel. We will miss her so much. The CHHS swim team is having a memorial tonight for her at our swim meet. It will be a fitting tribute to a young lady who taught us all how to fight, overcome adversity and live life to the fullest.
Please pray for her family.
I watched her story on the NBC TV coverage. She was a dominant swimmer when healthy. It was a very difficult and emotional story to see what she went through and how her body was ravaged. I will never forget her story and how now disease could harm her spirit and soul. They were very much intact. She is in God's hands now and I pray for her family.
Beth:
Thanks for sharing your story. I saw a feature about Marin Morrison on NBC and have followed her story that you posted 3 years ago when she was trying to get healthy to try and make the Olympic team. I am just so glad that she was able to compete at the Olympics against all odds and overcome the adversity.

Hi
Happy New Year
Roy won 1500 in 64 and his brother Robert won USA gold in 64 for waterpolo and father was coach of 64 team. They were from Buffalo and I think George you would have known father as he coached waterpolo. I know my dad knew him and said I should look him up in 64 and tell him who I was or my father was.
Anyways Roy died of heart attach at 63 in California.
I had been following Marin since Beth notified us of Miss Morrison's condition. I am heartbroken that she is gone - but so thrilled that she had the chance to compete in the Paralympics... I had no idea she had passed away. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
